When Things Get Silent
I'm not totally sure, but this could be the oldest of the songs in this collection (2005/2006ish). Hope in the midst of despair. I recorded this in my basement apartment in 2007ish.
"When Things Get Silent"
Instrumentation: guitar, mandolin
And when things get silent
You face what you knew all along
And the old truth hits you all violent
And you're singing the same old song
Do you remember the tune
We used to sing so proud
That light in your eye as bright as a new moon
Now shaded by time's shroud
And when things get dark
You start groping around
Searching for the tiniest spark
The faintest, familiar sound
Do you remember the sight
Of my face
On that crisp October night
That I've tried to erase
In the stillest silence
We hear a heart that still fights
Only in the deepest darkness
Do we notice the faintest of lights
And when you can't feel nothing
But the cold air on your skin
And the leaves on the trees keep falling
Just like the shape that you're in
Do you remember the feeling
Of standing so tall
But time, like a thief, loves stealing
The present's victory call
In the stillest silence...
